Details of the National Financial Stabilization Fund’s ninth market stabilization operation have been made public, revealing that funds were concentrated on eight major stocks, including TSMC. Ultimately, all selected stocks achieved profitable exits, with the final net profit reaching NT$9.932 billion.
According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, the fund’s intervention period ran from April 9, 2025, to January 12, 2026—a total of 279 days—setting a record for the longest market stabilization effort in history.
Last year, former U.S. President Trump’s imposition of reciprocal tariffs triggered a global stock market crash. Taiwan’s stock market experienced consecutive collapses amid wave after wave of stop-loss and panic selling, leading to a significant drop in trading volume. Blue-chip stocks such as TSMC hit daily trading limits. In response, the National Stabilization Fund decided on April 8, 2025, to launch its ninth market stabilization mission, injecting NT$500 billion into the market to restore confidence.
Concentrated Investment in TSMC and Seven Other Stocks Yields Nearly NT$10 Billion in Gains
Data published by the Ministry of Finance shows that while the eighth intervention involved purchases across 15 stocks, this round focused exclusively on just eight: "Formosa Plastics," "Delta Electronics," "Hon Hai," "TSMC," "Quanta Computer," "MediaTek," "Fubon Financial," and "ASE Holding." All positions were successfully exited at a profit.
The largest investment was in "TSMC," with a purchase amount of NT$7.702 billion, generating a disposal gain of NT$7.659 billion. Including dividends, total profits reached NT$7.772 billion—an over 100% return on investment, accounting for more than 77% of the total profit. The second-largest investment was in "Hon Hai" at NT$1.858 billion, yielding a total profit of NT$478 million. "ASE Holding" generated NT$1.002 billion in profits, achieving a return rate of 1.16 times.
The fund’s exit and divestment phase lasted from January 13, 2026, to May 6, 2026—a total of 114 days. During this period, the net profit from stock disposals amounted to NT$9.86 billion, with cash dividends received totaling NT$198 million. After deducting related expenses, the total net profit reached NT$9.932 billion, making this rescue operation highly successful.
