Controversy continues to grow over Overseas Chinese Affairs Council (OCAC) Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching's overseas inspections. The Taiwan People's Party legislative caucus revealed that since Hsu took office as head and deputy head of OCAC, she has made 47 overseas trips totaling 526 days, spending 23.83 million NTD of public funds. Media personality Chen Hui-wen launched a fierce critique on TVBS's program 'News in Plain Words,' questioning the unusually high number of Hsu's overseas visits.
Chen expressed particular outrage over Hsu's refusal to respond to inquiries from non-legislators, stating, 'We respect the separation of powers, so we will not respond to inaccurate claims made by non-legislators.' Reacting sharply, Chen retorted, 'Who do you think you are? What are you so proud of?' He sarcastically suggested other guests 'hurry up and become legislators' to qualify for a response.
Regarding Hsu's frequent overseas travel, Chen emphasized that public officials use taxpayer money, so their trips must be subject to public scrutiny. 'What exactly have you done? You're spending my money to travel abroad,' Chen said, challenging, 'When I travel, will you pay for me too?' He argued that all government officials using public funds for overseas inspections should be strictly reviewed, especially those scheduling trips near the end of their terms, which raises suspicion. Chen advocated cutting budgets for unnecessary overseas trips to save public funds.
On the controversy involving Hsu's son participating in the 'Overseas Youth Dongsha Ecological Experience Camp,' Chen expressed deep skepticism. He pointed out that Dongsha Island is a restricted area not open to the general public, questioning how Hsu's son was allowed to visit. 'It's strange—was this program specially designed for her son?' Chen suggested this could constitute the crime of 'seeking personal gain,' urging opposition parties to initiate investigations to clarify whether illegal actions occurred.
Chen lamented, 'I've known Hsu Chia-ching for many years, but I never expected her to be enjoying herself so much at OCAC.' Additional reports from Storm Media highlight further controversies: Huang Kuang-chin criticized the 47 overseas trips as wasteful; Shen Cheng-nan warned of potential infiltration by China; and Chen Chih-han revealed Hsu combined official trips with personal vacations, demanding her immediate resignation.
