Attention families planning or recently welcoming a new life: The Ministry of Labor's Labor Insurance Bureau began disbursing National Insurance childbirth benefits today (6th). With the adjustment of the monthly insured salary base under the National Insurance program, all benefit amounts have been increased accordingly. Eligible female insured individuals will now receive higher childbirth benefits, significantly easing the financial burden on new parents.

However, the Labor Insurance Bureau strongly urges applicants to act promptly. There is a strict application deadline: if a claim is not filed within five years of childbirth or premature delivery, the benefit will be forfeited.

In addition to today’s initial disbursement of National Insurance childbirth benefits, a total of 18 different social insurance pensions, allowances, and subsidies are scheduled to be credited throughout August. These include Farmer’s Pension, Labor Insurance pensions, Disaster Insurance benefits, and National Insurance old-age pensions. Disbursements peak toward the end of the month, so eligible recipients are reminded to check their passbooks or online banking accounts regularly.

How is the increased insured salary base calculated? Childbirth benefits now include an extra NT$2,000.

The monthly insured salary base for National Insurance has been raised to NT$21,103. This adjustment directly increases related benefit amounts. According to National Insurance regulations, female insured individuals who give birth or experience premature delivery during their active coverage period are entitled to a one-time childbirth benefit equal to two months of the insured salary base.

Based on the latest monthly insured salary, the childbirth benefit has increased from the previous amount of approximately NT$39,522 to NT$42,206—meaning each new mother receives over NT$2,000 more. For twins or multiple births, the benefit amount is proportionally multiplied, providing greater financial support for multiple-birth families.

What happens if you miss the application deadline? Beware: Unclaimed benefits after 5 years are forfeited.

The Labor Insurance Bureau reminds the public to pay close attention to the following key points regarding childbirth benefit claims:

5-Year Statute of Limitations: Per Article 28 of the National Insurance Act, childbirth benefits are subject to a five-year statute of limitations. The clock starts the day after childbirth or premature delivery. Applications must be submitted within this five-year window; claims submitted afterward will be legally denied.

Rights Protection After Cancellation: If an insured person becomes pregnant while covered under National Insurance but gives birth or experiences premature delivery within one year after cancellation, they may still claim the childbirth benefit—provided they have not received childbirth benefits from another social insurance program. Benefits can be retroactively paid as long as the claim is filed within five years from the announcement date.
