Taoyuan's startup energy is exploding. The Taoyuan Youth Innovation Expo and Biomedical Startup Matching Expo, co-organized by the Taoyuan City Government and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), opened on the 5th at the Taoyuan Exhibition Center. It brought together more than 200 startup teams, over 40 industry partners, and 1,500 domestic and international professionals across three major fields: smart manufacturing, green technology, and smart healthcare, establishing a one-stop innovation platform from incubation and exhibition to matchmaking and global expansion.
Tech Clusters Connect to International Gateways – Taoyuan Builds an Asian Innovation Hub
Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng stated that Taoyuan possesses complete clusters in tech manufacturing and biotech healthcare, combined with the advantages of an international airport and strategic transportation location, making it a crucial gateway for Taiwan’s startups to connect with global markets.
This year, the municipal government facilitated a cross-domain collaboration between the Youth Innovation Expo and BIOMED-X, integrating resources from industry, government, academia, research, healthcare, and venture capital to help startup teams secure funding, validation sites, and partners—further advancing Taoyuan as a key hub for technological innovation in Asia.
Tai-Cheng Tai, Senior Technical Specialist at the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Department of Technical Affairs, said future efforts will continue integrating public, private, and research resources to assist biomedical startups in connecting with venture capital and international distribution channels. Dr. Ruey-Mei Liou, Director of ITRI’s Biomedical and Health Devices Research Institute, noted that the BIOMED-X platform will link capital and medical resources to help teams overcome the hurdles of technology commercialization and market entry.
Cross-Regional, Cross-Industry, Cross-Border Integration – Expanding the Startup Network from Taoyuan to the World
Director Hou Chia-ling of the Taoyuan Youth Affairs Bureau stated that this year’s expo features three core characteristics: cross-regional, cross-industry, and cross-international collaboration. In addition to setting up a dedicated Taoyuan Highlights Zone, it connects science parks in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, local governments, and entrepreneurial incubators.
The exhibition also gathers academic and industrial resources such as ITRI’s Biomedical Accelerator, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, United Christian Hospital, and Asia Genomics, while the international zone invited partners from Canada and Japan, building an innovation network that links central and local governments, universities to industries, and Taiwan to the global stage.
Hou emphasized that the Youth Affairs Bureau has continuously supported young entrepreneurs—from idea conception to market expansion—through youth innovation bases, accelerators, and mentoring programs, aiming to increase the global visibility of Taoyuan-based teams.
From Satellites to Nasdaq – Taoyuan Teams Showcase Strong Incubation Capabilities
This year’s expo also highlighted the achievements of Taoyuan’s youth entrepreneurship incubation programs. Teams from the A8 Taoyuan Smart Industry Accelerator—Ruo Mei Technology and Mo Luo Artificial Intelligence—were selected into the top 100 of the National Development Council’s startup competition.
The team Together Sustainable Technology from the Taoyuan Skyline Accelerator previously appeared on the Nasdaq billboard in New York City. The team Huyu Vector from Andong Youth Innovation Base developed a fiber optic gyroscope that successfully launched aboard the Shih-Tiger-1 satellite, demonstrating how Taoyuan startups are achieving results at national competitions, global capital markets, and even in space technology.
The expo simultaneously hosted industry forums, international exchanges, technology exhibitions, and one-on-one business matchmaking sessions, inviting experts from the United States, Canada, Thailand, and Japan to share insights on artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, green technology, biomedical innovation, and global market trends.
The city government aims to precisely match startups with investment, technology, field testing opportunities, and distribution channels to help them secure orders, resources, and overseas collaboration opportunities—enabling more teams to officially launch from Taoyuan onto the world stage.
