Urgent Blood Shortage in Summer! DPP Kaohsiung Hosts Blood Donation Event on August 9 – Huang Jie and Lai Rui-Long to Lead by Example

Summer vacation is traditionally the most critical period for blood bank reserves, and recently, blood supplies across all blood types in Taiwan have begun issuing warning alerts. In response to the public welfare blood donation campaign, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Kaohsiung City Party Branch will host a 'Blood for Taiwan, Donate to Protect Our Community' public blood donation event on August 9 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the outdoor plaza of Kaohsiung Big City Department Store, calling on citizens to roll up their sleeves and help meet medical blood demands.

Huang Jie, Chairperson of the DPP Kaohsiung City Party Branch, stated that blood reserves are in urgent need and saving lives cannot wait. The event is held at the bustling Big City Department Store to attract more young people and the general public to participate. On the day, Huang Jie and DPP Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Lai Rui-Long will personally board the blood donation bus to donate blood, setting an example and raising public awareness of the blood shortage crisis.

Huang emphasized that blood donation not only helps patients in need but is also the most direct form of life-saving action. The event has invited numerous local village chiefs and community figures to join, uniting social forces to safeguard medical capacity.

To thank participants, the DPP Kaohsiung City Party Branch has partnered with the TSG Hawks baseball team, Kaohsiung Taiwan Trust Association, Jiurou Blood Donation Center, Kaohsiung Fire Equipment Engineers Association, Lingya District Village Chiefs Friendship Association, Lingya Branch of the 1st Promotion Battalion of the Kaohsiung Civil Defense Fire Corps, and the Search and Rescue Dog Unit of the Special Search Battalion of the Kaohsiung Civil Defense Fire Corps. They have prepared various limited-edition gifts, including TSG Hawks rally towels, Buer Chih-Kuo gift boxes, residential smoke fire alarms, CAS-certified boxed eggs, Arabica coffee gift sets, Chi Mei food products, roll toilet paper, and golden buckwheat rice, as tokens of appreciation for donors.

Organizers noted that due to hot weather during summer vacation, public willingness to donate blood tends to decrease, leading to persistently low blood reserves across all blood types. They urge eligible citizens to take advantage of the weekend to participate actively, contributing life-saving actions and ensuring a stable blood supply for the healthcare system. The event will be held on Sunday, August 9, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the outdoor plaza of Kaohsiung Big City Department Store (intersection of Zhongshan 2nd Road and Sanduo 4th Road, Lingya District, Kaohsiung City). The public is warmly welcomed to join this charitable cause.
