During the rainy season and typhoons each year, Taiwan's hot and humid weather often causes black mold to repeatedly grow on indoor walls and ceilings. To address this issue, Hong Kong's hardware tools platform 'Da Jiang Fu' proposes a three-step mold removal method using alcohol, bleach, and specialized agents. Additionally, Taiwan's health specialist, Nurse Tan Dunci, points out that maintaining indoor humidity below 50% is crucial for preventing mold regrowth.
For light mold (surface mold stains), use 75% medical alcohol. First, gently brush off surface dust and mold stains with a soft brush, then evenly spray alcohol and wipe gently with a cloth. Be careful not to damage the paint surface.
For moderate mold (deep-colored mold penetrating the wall), use bleach diluted at a ratio of 1:99. First, lightly sand the surface mold stains with fine sandpaper, then spray the diluted bleach onto the affected area. After letting it sit for about 30 minutes until the color fades, wipe it clean. Be sure to wear a mask and gloves and ensure proper ventilation during operation.
For severe mold (large areas of stubborn mold stains), use a specialized wall mold remover. After sanding the surface, spray a specialized mold remover with strong penetration, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes, then press dry with a cloth.
Taiwan has about 300 days a year with temperatures above 11°C and humidity above 50%, creating ideal conditions for mold growth. Long-term inhalation of mold spores can trigger allergies or asthma, so preventing mold requires environmental control.
Nurse Tan Dunci advises always checking the humidity in your home. If indoor humidity exceeds 60%, immediately turn on the dehumidifier and continue dehumidifying until the humidity drops back to 50%. This method cuts off the conditions for mold growth and protects home health.
