The Chengcing Lake loop trail network continues to expand! Kaohsiung City Government is continuously improving the walking environment around Chengcing Lake. The Public Works Bureau’s Road Maintenance Engineering Office recently completed the construction of a lakeside walkway on Wensheng Road in Niaosong District, building a physical pedestrian path approximately 1.4 kilometers long and 2 meters wide. Safety railings have been installed, and pavement and road markings have been renewed, enabling residents and visitors to safely stroll along the lakeshore. This project marks a significant advancement toward a fully integrated lakeside recreational network.

Future Integration of Mountain-Water Green Corridors After Water and MRT Projects

Public Works Bureau Director Yang Chin-fu stated that since the city government took over the Chengcing Lake Scenic Area and established the Kaohsiung Guoling Nature Park, it has been progressively improving the circulation environment from the scenic core outward to surrounding residential areas. Improvements have already been completed on the west bank road, the loop trail, and surrounding pedestrian environments including Songyi Road, Bade South Road, and Dapi Road, along with the addition of access entrances. With the completion of the lakeside walkway on the eastern side of Wensheng Road, the safe and friendly walking zone around Chengcing Lake continues to expand.

The Public Works Bureau noted that Wensheng Road in Niaosong District is part of District Highway No. 57. It serves not only as a key tourism corridor for Chengcing Lake but also as an essential daily commuting and travel route for residents of Niaosong and Renwu. The area borders 'San Ting Lan Sheng,' one of the Eight Views of Chengcing Lake, and is near the construction site of Taiwan’s first national-level Indigenous Peoples Museum. The surrounding area is primarily residential, combining tourism, recreation, and daily transportation functions.

Previously, some sections of Wensheng Road lacked adequate pedestrian space, forcing pedestrians to share the road edge with vehicle traffic. To improve daily life and recreational routes, the Road Engineering Office collaborated with the Transportation Bureau, Parks and Street Lights Office, and Waterworks Bureau to construct a 2-meter-wide, 1.4-kilometer-long physical pedestrian path along the lakeshore. Safety railings were installed, and pavement and road markings were renewed from the west bank road to Mengli West Lane, enhancing overall road smoothness and walking safety.

Mr. Li, a nearby resident, shared that he frequently walks to the Chengcing Lake scenic area for exercise. In the past, he had to walk along the roadside from his home. Since the walkway was completed, the passage environment has become brighter and safer, and he now enjoys evening strolls along the lakeshore to watch the sunset, significantly improving his recreational experience.

The Road Engineering Office stated that the Water Resources Bureau’s lakeside waterway trail and the MRT Yellow Line construction are still ongoing. Once these projects are completed, they will further connect the surrounding mountain-water green corridors, walking spaces, and public transportation systems, gradually forming a more comprehensive lakeside recreational network. This will transform Chengcing Lake from just a tourist attraction into a vital urban green oasis for citizens’ daily walks, exercise, and nature engagement.

The Public Works Bureau reminds the public that construction is still underway in certain sections. When passing through construction zones, please pay attention to on-site traffic control and construction warning signs, slow down, and proceed cautiously to ensure safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
