Egg production has declined due to hen molting and prolonged hot weather, while pre-typhoon stockpiling has boosted market demand. Following a meeting, the Taipei City Egg Merchants Association announced a price increase of NT$3 per catty this week, raising the farmgate price to NT$39.5 and the wholesale price to NT$49 per catty.
Egg prices are rising! This week’s egg prices surged by NT$3, with farmgate prices at NT$39.5 and wholesale prices reaching NT$49.
Liu Wei-chih, Standing Supervisor of the Taipei City Egg Merchants Association, pointed out that the recent drop in egg production is primarily due to sustained high temperatures, along with poultry farmers conducting molting and production adjustments on aging laying hens. Overall egg output has not yet fully recovered. Additionally, consumer stockpiling ahead of typhoon season has increased market demand, further pushing up prices.
According to the latest statistics from the Council of Agriculture, daily domestic egg production is currently around 123,000 cases, down approximately 500 cases from last week. Assuming about 200 eggs per case, this means the national daily supply has decreased by roughly 100,000 eggs.

The current market supply-demand balance and price fluctuations remain within a reasonable range.
The Council emphasized that it has urged producers to strengthen flock management and production control, while coordinating with egg merchants across regions to enhance inter-regional distribution efforts, ensuring stable egg supply nationwide and protecting consumer interests.
