Wu Ming-Hsien, Dean of the National Taiwan University (NTU) College of Medicine and former Director of NTU Hospital, was rushed to the hospital in late June under OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) condition and has since undergone 50 days of intensive treatment in the ICU at NTU Hospital. Today (12th), NTU Hospital President Yu Chung-Jen revealed that Wu Ming-Hsien remains unconscious. He also stated that the hospital is preparing to transition Wu’s care into the subacute phase—long-term supportive care.
The 61-year-old Wu was first transported from his home to Taipei Medical University Hospital on June 23 this year, before being transferred to NTU Hospital. According to sources, Wu was admitted due to a myocardial infarction and had previously received life-saving treatments including ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) and therapeutic hypothermia.
President Yu attended a morning press conference titled "NTU Hospital Partners with Bayer Taiwan to Launch Next-Generation CT Smart Contrast Administration Care Model, Advancing Intelligent Healthcare and ESG Sustainability Toward an Asia-Pacific Demonstration Center." After the event, during a media briefing, Yu addressed reporters' inquiries about Wu’s condition and provided an update.
Yu stated, "Wu’s condition remains unchanged. The hospital is currently making preparations to shift toward subacute and long-term care." When asked whether Wu had regained consciousness, Yu clearly responded, "His consciousness has not yet returned."
