Overseas Community Affairs Council Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching admitted yesterday to bringing her son to the military-controlled Dongsha Island, violating the Public Officials Conflict of Interest Avoidance Act, and acknowledged that she should not have acted out of momentary compassion. Hsu stated she will face a fine of NT$100,000 but has not yet paid, as she only received the investigation file last week.

In response, DPP caucus secretary-general Fan Yun stated today at a press conference that since Hsu has already admitted fault, the DPP caucus stance is that the matter should be handled according to the law—'if a fine is warranted, it should be imposed.'

The People's Party caucus in the Legislative Yuan recently revealed that Hsu Chia-ching illegally brought her son to the restricted military zone of Dongsha Island—an unprecedented act—causing OCAC staff to undergo investigation by the Control Yuan, resulting in severe psychological and physical distress.

On the 11th, Hsu admitted that she made a mistake due to momentary weakness, violating the Public Officials Conflict of Interest Avoidance Act, and is now facing a NT$100,000 fine. She explained that she has not yet paid the fine because she only received the case file last week. Hsu also clarified that they did not profit from the incident, admitted she should not have signed the official document, and acknowledged it was wrong to specially invite her son out of fear that the event might be canceled.

At the same time, she emphasized that her son holds dual citizenship and has studied overseas for years, thus genuinely qualifying as an overseas compatriot.

DPP caucus secretary-general Fan Yun held a press conference today to respond to public opinion, stating that the DPP caucus had previously responded to the incident and was aware that the Control Yuan was investigating, thus expressing respect for the investigation's outcome.
