Wang Yu-Min, a legislator and concurrently serving as the Kuomintang (KMT) Chiayi County Party Director, has resigned from her party post just 100 days before the end-of-year 'Nine-in-One' local elections, with the resignation approved by the central party. This has sparked skepticism among local Blue Camp supporters, who worry that changing leadership so close to election day could severely damage campaign morale.

Li Che-Hua, Director of the KMT's Organization and Development Committee, confirmed on the 12th that Wang's resignation was approved because Taichung mayoral candidate Chiang Chi-Chen intends to appoint her as Executive Director of his campaign headquarters. The central KMT reasoned that since candidate nominations at the Chiayi County level—including township mayors and county councilors—have been finalized, they reluctantly approved her resignation.

Li explained that Chiang first expressed interest in borrowing Wang’s expertise in early June, proposing she take over as head of his mayoral campaign’s executive operations. However, at that time, the central party declined, as Chiayi County’s nomination process was still ongoing. After repeated requests emphasizing Wang’s strategic value, and with local nominations now complete, the central party agreed to allow her resignation.

Wang Yu-Min was previously nominated by the KMT to run in the 2022 Chiayi County magistrate election. Though she lost, her vote count was respectable, and she earned strong local recognition. Former KMT Chair Eric Chu sought to strengthen her local roots for a potential re-election bid by nominating her for a third term as a party-list legislator.

However, this year, Chiayi County adopted an 'Opposition Alliance' model, jointly endorsing Wu Pin-Jui, mayor of Puzi City, as the unified candidate for county magistrate. On August 1, Chiang Chi-Chen announced the formation of his Taichung mayoral campaign headquarters, already naming Wang as Deputy Campaign Director. Reports now indicate she will assume the role of Executive Director.

Li emphasized that Wang made significant contributions to advancing the 'Opposition Alliance' during her tenure and will continue to actively participate in all campaign events for Wu Pin-Jui.
