Taiwan’s population is aging at an accelerating pace, making dementia-related medical care, long-term support, and household financial planning a pressing long-term issue for the public. Anda Life has launched the 'Memory Companion Lifetime Health Insurance,' featuring staged benefit payments for mild and moderate-to-severe dementia, coverage for five categories of specific illnesses, and premium waiver provisions in cases of disability, offering individuals a new option for managing long-term health risks.

Rising Dementia Prevalence Among Seniors — Growing Pressure on Care and Medical Costs

According to the Taiwan Community Dementia Epidemiological Survey released by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the prevalence of dementia among adults aged 65 and above is 7.99%, meaning approximately one in thirteen seniors is affected. The rate rises to 16% among those aged 80 to 84, and reaches 23.23% for those aged 85 and older, clearly indicating that dementia risk increases significantly with age.

Analysis linking data from the National Health Insurance database also reveals that individuals with dementia face higher risks of emergency visits and hospitalization compared to those without dementia. They also incur more frequent medical consultations and higher healthcare expenditures. For families, dementia is not merely a health concern—it impacts long-term caregiving arrangements, human resource allocation, and financial preparedness.

Amid the aging trend, dementia-related caregiving and financial planning have become critical family matters. In response, Anda Life has introduced the 'Memory Companion Lifetime Health Insurance,' offering a new choice for individuals planning against long-term health risks. (Image courtesy of Anda Life)

Staged Payouts for Mild Dementia, Lump-Sum Support for Moderate-to-Severe Cases

Anda Life explains that the 'Memory Companion Lifetime Health Insurance' divides dementia coverage into stages based on disease progression. When the insured meets the initial cognitive impairment criteria defined in the policy terms, they may claim the mild dementia insurance benefit according to the applicable policy year. Starting from the second policy year, 5% of the insured amount is paid once, and the policy remains valid thereafter.

If the insured meets the criteria for moderate-to-severe dementia and continues to meet the conditions beyond the exclusion period, a lump-sum insurance payment will be made based on the policy year and terms. From the second policy year onward, the full insured amount is paid out, allowing policyholders and their families to allocate funds toward actual caregiving and living expenses. However, the policy terminates upon payment.

Coverage for Five Specific Illnesses — Premium Waivers to Reduce Burden in Disability

The product also includes coverage for five specific illnesses: multiple sclerosis, severe motor neuron disease, deep coma, sequelae of benign brain tumors with neurological impairment, and myasthenia gravis. If the insured is diagnosed with any of these conditions for the first time and meets the policy-defined criteria, they may claim the specific illness insurance benefit. This payout is limited to one occurrence, after which the policy terminates.

Additionally, if the insured becomes physically disabled due to illness or accident during the policy term and premium payment period, meeting Grade 1 to Grade 6 disability criteria, subsequent renewal premiums will be waived as per the policy terms. This helps reduce the ongoing financial burden when a family faces a major health crisis.

Payable Over 10 or 20 Years, Coverage Until Age 100 — Review Terms Before Purchase

Policyholders can choose between a 10-year or 20-year premium payment plan, with coverage lasting until the policy anniversary when the insured reaches age 100. Anda Life emphasizes that the purpose of insurance planning is to transform unpredictable long-term risks into manageable financial preparations, ensuring greater resources and flexibility when caregiving needs arise.
