Reports indicate that after the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln experienced food shortages, plumbing failures, and mental health crises during a record-breaking deployment, Democratic members of Congress today demanded the military explain living conditions aboard the ship.

According to AFP, Senator Richard Blumenthal sent a letter today to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, requesting the Navy provide an explanation regarding the situation on this vessel.

He noted that the USS Abraham Lincoln has been "deployed for over 250 days" and has operated at sea for "over 200 days without docking or going ashore," setting a record for continuous maritime operations.

Blumenthal expressed concern over such an extended deployment and cited widespread reports of "shortages of basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, flight deck safety concerns," and other problems aboard the Lincoln.

Senator Ruben Gallego posted on social media platform X, calling for "an official bipartisan Senate delegation visit to the USS Abraham Lincoln to investigate the alarming conditions reported in the media."

The Lincoln departed San Diego, California, on November 21, 2025, en route to conduct missions in the South China Sea, before being redirected to the Middle East ahead of the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran on February 28 this year.

According to MS Now, during two recent meetings, family members clashed with Navy leadership over the harsh conditions faced by the 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard the Lincoln, demanding to know when their loved ones would return home.

Some families reported severe mental health issues and suicide attempts occurring on board.

Gallego, a former service member, wrote in his post: "Reports of crew threatening to jump overboard sound a terrifying alarm about how bad things have gotten: moldy showers, sporadic hot water, rationed meals and soap, broken toilets, and grueling 12- to 16-hour shifts every day with no time off."

He added, "The way President Trump is treating our troops while waging this illegal war is not only repugnant but extremely dangerous."
