Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu recently criticized KMT caucus convener Fu Kun-chi, saying, 'Wouldn't it be easier if you just quit as convener?' This came amid tensions over the national budget bill. On the 14th, during a legislative vote, it was the first time Han and Fu met face-to-face since the outburst. As soon as Fu saw Han, he called out, 'President Han, hello!' Han immediately replied, 'Then you must be the UN Secretary-General.' DPP caucus leader Tsai Chi-chang commented that the atmosphere was 'okay, a bit sarcastic — just KMT family matters.'

Why the Conflict Between Han and Fu?

Former chairman of China Broadcasting Company, Jaw Shaw-kong, stated that the conflict isn't about the 2028 presidential election or who leads the legislature. The real issue, he said, is that 'Fu Kun-chi wants to become Vice President of the Legislative Yuan,' but Han Kuo-yu has no intention of supporting his appointment. This long-standing resentment, building since 2024, has now erupted. When asked on the 14th whether he would support Fu's bid for deputy speaker, Han simply replied, 'Okay, okay, okay.'

Tsai Chi-chang described the scene between Han and Fu on the 14th as 'not bad, a bit acidic — it's just KMT internal affairs.' DPP caucus whip Chang Jui-hsiung noted that 'they're engaging in high-level political banter.'

Lin Pei-hsiang: Old Friends' Banter, Not Worth Overanalyzing

KMT caucus secretary-general Lin Pei-hsiang said the two often joke around during each session and laugh together. 'It's just friendly teasing between old friends. Making a big deal out of this is meaningless,' he added.
