As the local election in Tainan heats up, Tong Xiaoyu, a candidate for the North and West Central districts, teamed up with the popular cheer group 'Wu Di' Creative Dance Troupe to launch a charity sale at Champion Papaya Milk, a top-rated papaya milk shop. Featuring Denei’s specialty papaya noodles, the event offered pre-cooked dry noodles for tasting, drawing many night market visitors to stop, sample, and support the cause.

Tong Xiaoyu emphasized that the event was driven purely by charitable intent. "Our goal is to harness the vibrant energy of Garden Night Market to transform people’s joy of eating and shopping into greater compassion," she said. Members of Wu Di also attended, drawing fans and onlookers with their eye-catching outfits and energetic presence, leading to numerous photo opportunities.

Champion Papaya Milk’s owner, Tsai Jung-hsun, developed papaya and mango noodles that incorporate Tainan’s local fruits into noodle dishes. Praised for their chewy texture, the noodles were central to the charity effort. Tong explained that three packs were sold for NT$600, with all proceeds donated to social welfare groups. "We want every bowl of Tainan-flavored noodles to become a force for helping the vulnerable," she said.

Garden Night Market, one of Tainan’s most iconic night markets, is known not only for its diverse food but also for its warm community spirit. It is currently running a 'Spend 200, Get 300' coupon promotion, encouraging more visitors to support local vendors and experience the market’s lively atmosphere. Tong stressed that charity is her lifelong mission. "As long as time and ability allow, I will continue to engage in public welfare and care for the underprivileged, ensuring that kindness spreads to every corner of the city."

The collaboration highlights how political campaigns can pivot toward community service, blending public engagement with social impact. By aligning with local businesses and cultural groups, Tong’s initiative strengthens grassroots connections and promotes sustainable civic participation. The event also spotlighted Tainan’s agricultural strengths, using regional produce to create value-added food products that resonate with both locals and tourists.

With increasing public demand for authenticity and social responsibility in politics, such initiatives may set a precedent for future candidates. The integration of food culture, youth performance, and charitable giving creates a holistic model of community-driven campaigning. Future events could expand to include more vendors, educational booths, or partnerships with NGOs to deepen impact.

This effort reflects broader trends in Taiwan’s civic society, where personal narratives and grassroots actions are gaining traction over traditional political rhetoric. It also underscores the role of night markets as dynamic platforms for social innovation and public engagement beyond commerce.
