With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, the 'Moonlight Craftsmanship, Kaohsiung Gifts' promotional event for Mid-Autumn products made by disability groups kicked off energetically on the 15th. Huang Jin-Ping, Secretary-General of the Kaohsiung City Council, attended on behalf of Speaker Kang Yu-Cheng and announced that this year, the Council procured 1,067 gift boxes from disability groups, amounting to a total of NT$765,550—setting new highs in both quantity and value, demonstrating concrete support for the efforts and achievements of these groups.

This year, a total of 23 disability groups participated in the Mid-Autumn product promotion. In addition to Huang representing Speaker Kang, Councilors Chen Hui-Wen and service teams from Councilors Li Ya-Jing and Cheng An-Xi also joined in support. Acting Secretary-General Wang Qi-Chuan of the city government presented certificates of appreciation, recognizing the Council’s long-term commitment to supporting disability groups through actual procurement, transforming public welfare from slogan into real empowerment for people with disabilities.

Speaker Kang’s Promise: 'More Each Year' – Council Increases Procurement for Three Consecutive Years

Kang Yu-Cheng, a long-time advocate for disability groups, had already pledged during the 113th year’s Mid-Autumn sales event that as long as he serves as Speaker, the Council will respond annually to the joint promotion of disability-made Mid-Autumn gifts, with procurement amounts guaranteed to exceed the previous year.

This promise has been fulfilled year after year. In 113, the Council procured 620 boxes at a cost of NT$484,100; in 114, this rose to 1,048 boxes for NT$635,020; and this year, 1,067 boxes were sourced from seven units at a total cost of NT$765,550—marking three consecutive years of increased procurement, with both volume and value reaching record highs once again.

Huang emphasized that public welfare must go beyond slogans. For disability groups, the most practical form of support is 'purchasing through action.' By increasing procurement volumes for three consecutive years, the Council hopes each Mid-Autumn gift box helps more people recognize the dedication and professionalism of individuals with disabilities, turning ethical consumption into a force that supports their sustainable development.

Huang also called upon businesses, trade associations, and citizens: if you have gifting needs this Mid-Autumn Festival, please prioritize selecting Mid-Autumn products made by disability groups. Learn more about these groups and their unique offerings via the 'AiYou Network'.

He expressed hope that the Kaohsiung City Council will continue to lead by example, encouraging more enterprises and members of the public to join the movement of ethical procurement—sending blessings through warm-hearted holiday gifts while delivering tangible support, ensuring the hard work of people with disabilities is seen and valued, and integrating public good into everyday life.
