What to Do During a Water Shutoff 1. Complete water storage at least six hours before the shutoff begins to avoid overwhelming demand at the last minute, which could leave end-of-line users without water. 2. As previously reported by Wind Media: 'What to do before water shutoff? 9 common plumbing device questions answered—failure to comply may cause fire!' It is recommended to turn off power to home water pumps, booster motors, and electric storage water heaters to prevent fire hazards. 3. Users whose building’s water inlet is below ground level should close the main meter’s shut-off valve during the shutoff to prevent possible siphon contamination. 4. When using a rubber hose connected to a faucet, do not submerge the hose in water to avoid secondary contamination due to siphoning during shutoff. 5. Upon restoration of water supply, open all valves to release air and restore flow quickly. Users at pipe ends or high elevations may experience delayed water delivery due to low pressure—please understand. If no water is available after restoration, contact the water company for on-site assistance.
