Jaguar's first production vehicle of its new era, the Type 01, is pulling back the curtain once more. Following the reveal of its name and exterior design, the brand has now disclosed detailed cabin features, showcasing a central longitudinal spine, a low-slung GT driving position, and seamlessly integrated hidden technology—redefining Jaguar’s vision of modern luxury interiors.
As the brand’s inaugural model following its transformation, the Type 01 not only carries the torch of design innovation but also demonstrates Jaguar’s electric ambitions with three electric motors, delivering 1,000ps of maximum power and 132kgm of peak torque.
The name 'Type 01' encapsulates Jaguar’s vision for the future. The '0' represents pure electric drive and zero emissions, while the '1' signifies it as the first model of Jaguar’s new generation—designed, engineered, and manufactured to uphold British craftsmanship and the brand’s original spirit.
The 'Type 01' name appears along the 'Strikethrough' design line where the hood meets the windshield—a bold, minimalist stroke that Jaguar intends to become a key brand identifier in the future. The 'Type' nomenclature is not new to Jaguar, tracing back to the C-type that won the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans, followed by iconic models like the E-type and F-TYPE. These vehicles established Jaguar’s reputation for combining performance with luxury. Now, Type 01 inherits this legacy and brings it into the all-electric era.
Powered by three electric motors, Type 01 achieves 1,000ps of horsepower and 132kgm of torque. For Jaguar, electrification is not merely a powertrain swap but a rethinking of how performance and luxury are expressed.
The cabin, revealed for the first time, marks another major innovation. Departing from traditional horizontal interior lines, Type 01 features a central longitudinal spine that runs through the entire cabin, emphasizing vertical visual dynamics and creating four independent spaces. A low driver’s seat position wraps the cabin around the driver, enhancing the GT driving experience.
Material choices draw inspiration from the timeless texture of cave stone and the intricate weave of handcrafted textiles, layering tactile and visual richness. The central spine is finished with a brass-like surface, extending seamlessly to the upper door trim for front-to-rear harmony. The iconic Jaguar leaping cat emblem is also integrated into the cabin’s artistic elements, making brand identity part of the interior design.
Thomas Holden, Jaguar’s Chief Interior Designer, stated that the design philosophy was to extend the car’s strong exterior presence into the cabin, creating a unique 'interior architecture' through the central spine. 'Using authentic materials, on-demand technology, and clean surfaces, we’ve crafted a dramatic cabin experience,' he said.
Technology integration follows a different philosophy: infotainment and digital interfaces are embedded into the cabin structure, with some functions appearing only when needed—avoiding clutter from screens and gadgets. Hidden storage, on-demand tech features, and unexpected color accents maintain a clean, minimalist aesthetic.
Notably, the ClearSight electronic rearview mirror is positioned at the base of the windshield, aligned with the external mirrors, allowing drivers to keep their eyes focused naturally on the road ahead.
The Type 01 prototype will first appear in a unique livery at Monterey Car Week in California, USA, making a significant debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16. This appearance pays homage to Jaguar’s heritage, with the global launch set for October 6 in New York.
Through its name, 1,000ps electric powertrain, and now the revealed cabin design, Jaguar is gradually assembling the full picture of its transformed identity. For the brand, Type 01 is more than a new car—it’s the starting point of the next phase of its 'A copy of nothing' philosophy. Expressive modernist design, electric technology, and intuitive driving dynamics will become core design genes for future Jaguar models.
