When residents conduct home cleaning or decluttering, they often find many out-of-season, damaged, or unused old bags and wallets. Seeing items once purchased but now闲置, many people are unsure how to properly classify them and may inadvertently violate regulations by disposing of them incorrectly. Regarding the disposal of unwanted bags, the local environmental bureau has provided a clear answer.
Can old leather bags be placed in clothing recycling bins? The environmental bureau clarifies common misconceptions. Many people intuitively believe that bags and wallets, being textile or fashion accessories, can be casually placed into roadside clothing recycling bins. In response, the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau's official fan page 'New Taipei i Environmental Protection' specifically clarified that although many assume these items can be donated to clothing recycling bins, this is incorrect. The correct method is to dispose of them directly with garbage trucks.
The bureau further explains that all types of bags, wallets, and handbags—regardless of material such as leather, synthetic leather, or fabric—are not classified as legally recyclable resources and cannot be treated as used clothing for recycling.
Since old bags cannot be recycled, the correct disposal process is straightforward. When disposing of unwanted bags, residents should simply place them into the designated garbage bags required by their city or county and hand them directly to the garbage collection truck when it arrives.
The environmental bureau reminds the public to strictly follow waste sorting guidelines and avoid mixing non-recyclable items into recyclables or used clothing, which creates additional burdens for sanitation workers during sorting and collection.
Will there be penalties for improper disposal? Violations can result in fines of up to 6,000 NTD. When handling household waste and闲置 items, individuals must comply with relevant environmental regulations. According to Article 27 and Article 50 of the Waste Disposal Act, improper disposal of garbage or failure to use designated garbage bags may result in a maximum fine of 6,000 New Taiwan Dollars imposed by the competent authority.
Residents should pay special attention to proper disposal rules when organizing and cleaning their homes. Practicing correct waste sorting not only maintains environmental cleanliness but also prevents financial loss due to momentary negligence.
