The film 'Da Meng' has received numerous international accolades, and on the 18th, Taiwan's Ministry of Culture announced that the film will represent Taiwan in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards in 2027. The recommendation was based on the film's ability to present the era through a grassroots lens, reflecting Taiwan's character while maintaining universal relevance.

The title 'Da Meng' means 'Great Fog,' symbolizing the historical atmosphere of Taiwan in the 1950s. The film deeply portrays the helplessness and kindness of ordinary people struggling to survive amid sweeping historical forces. Director Chen Yu-hsun uncovers the history of the White Terror era from a civilian perspective, paying tribute to the clouds and mists of that time, while preserving his signature grassroots humor and incisively depicting the full spectrum of human nature—joy, sorrow, good, and evil.

In a press release, the Ministry stated that seven local films were submitted this year, and after intense deliberation by the selection committee, 'Da Meng' was chosen by majority vote. The justification cited was: 'The characters are vivid, the storytelling fluid, and the diverse commoner perspectives effectively convey the era. It reflects Taiwan's landscape while also addressing universal concerns.'

'Da Meng' has earned countless awards both domestically and internationally. It won four major awards at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards: Best Narrative Feature, Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, and Best Costume Design. It was nominated in 13 categories at the 2026 28th Taipei Film Awards, ultimately securing five honors: Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, Best Original Film Song, Best Art Direction, and Best Costume Design. Its international performance has also been outstanding, being selected for the competition section of Italy's Udine Far East Film Festival, and subsequently invited to the Hong Kong International Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival in the United States, and Singapore Chinese Language Film Festival. It has also achieved top rankings on international streaming platforms.

The Ministry also emphasized that Taiwan's deep foundation in democratic freedom and multicultural inclusiveness serves as the most precious soil for nurturing cinematic creativity. This abundant creative energy is reflected in strong market performance: as of July this year, domestic box office revenue for Taiwanese films has reached NT$1.192 billion, with cumulative attendance surpassing 4.4 million, already exceeding last year's full-year total.

While strengthening the domestic market, the Ministry launched the 'Great Navigation Project' last year to further expand overseas reach. By promoting international co-productions and deepening cross-border talent and technical exchanges, the initiative aims to comprehensively upgrade Taiwan's film industry and steadily advance into the global market.
