Wu Tzu-chia Sues Ko Wen-je, Huang Kuo-chang; Backfires on Hsu Hsin-ying? Jaw Shaw-kong Laments: 'Why Do This?' Winning the Lawsuit Still Equals Losing

The blue-white integration for the Zhubei mayoral election has collapsed, and the controversy has escalated into a judicial battle. Wu Tzu-chia, chairman of the Formosa News Network, recently filed criminal charges against nine individuals, including former Taiwan People's Party (TPP) chair Ko Wen-je and current chair Huang Kuo-chang, accusing them of spreading false statements with the intent to prevent Kuomintang (KMT) Hsinchu County candidate Hsu Hsin-ying from being elected.

In response, former chairman of China Broadcasting Corporation Jaw Shaw-kong stated that judicial outcomes cannot be delivered before the election, rendering the lawsuit ineffective in aiding Hsu Hsin-ying’s campaign. 'Even if you win the case, you still lose,' he said.

Following the collapse of blue-white coordination for the Zhubei mayoral race, the TPP has repeatedly accused Hsu Hsin-ying of failing to honor coordination commitments. Hsu denies ever making such promises, leading to conflicting narratives and casting a shadow over blue-white cooperation in Hsinchu County and city.

On the 7th, Wu Tzu-chia released a statement through Chen Chen-dong Law Firm, asserting that after conducting an independent investigation and reviewing Line chat records between Hsu Hsin-ying and Huang Kuo-chang, he concluded that Hsu never made the alleged commitments.

The statement explained that Wu filed the criminal complaint 'to uphold electoral integrity,' accusing the defendants of violating Article 104, Paragraph 1 of the Public Officials Election and Recall Act. He urged prosecutors to investigate whether false rumors or misinformation were disseminated to harm a candidate’s electoral prospects.

On his political commentary program 'Shaokang’s War Room,' Jaw Shaw-kong emphasized that whether Hsu actually made a promise is not the core issue. His concern is whether Wu’s legal action at this timing provides any tangible benefit to Hsu’s campaign.

Jaw analyzed that criminal cases cannot be resolved quickly, and investigations and judicial proceedings will inevitably extend beyond the election. Thus, voters cannot assess the truthfulness of either side before casting ballots. He questioned: 'Does this help Hsu’s campaign? Wu Tzu-chia should consider whether this action is truly helpful.'

'I believe it’s not helpful at all,' Jaw stated bluntly. He argued that if Wu’s goal is to assist Hsu, launching a legal battle before the election only prolongs the controversy and draws more public attention to the rift between the blue and white camps. Chen Feng-hsin, a senior media commentator and guest on the show, added: 'I think this is counterproductive.'

Jaw further pointed out that even if Wu succeeds in the lawsuit, the judicial outcome will only be revealed after the election. 'Winning the case is still losing—it won’t happen quickly. That’s a future matter.' He added, 'If Wu truly wants to help Hsu, why do this? I don’t understand his intention.'
