Hsieh Dian-lin Detained Without Bail; DPP Caucus Calls for Respecting Judiciary: Avoid Inferring Political Interference Based on Timing

Hsieh Dian-lin, Speaker of Changhua County Council, is suspected of violating the Public Officials Election and Recall Act. The Changhua District Prosecutors Office has launched an investigation and requested pre-trial detention without visitation. In response, Chuang Jui-hsiung, Secretary-General of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) caucus in the Legislative Yuan, stated that the case has now entered judicial proceedings. The DPP caucus respects the judicial investigation and will not preemptively judge the guilt or innocence of any individual case.

Regarding the Kuomintang's (KMT)质疑 regarding the basis and legitimacy of the prosecutors' investigation, Chuang emphasized that prosecutors may appropriately disclose information about legally permissible procedures, provided that the core and secrecy of the investigation are not compromised.

He further stressed that political figures publicly filing complaints or raising questions is fundamentally different from whether prosecutorial authorities internally possess sufficient evidence to initiate an investigation. The public should not directly infer judicial interference based solely on the chronological order of events.

Chuang added that if there are doubts about investigative procedures, they can and should be clarified through existing judicial mechanisms. He insisted that all political parties and political figures must be evaluated under the same legal standards, allowing objective evidence and rigorous judicial processes to determine the truth.
