2026 Nantou World Tea Expo: Oct 3–11 at Zhongxing New Village with 35 Themed Pavilions & 200+ Booths Showcasing Tea Culture

The 2026 Nantou World Tea Expo will be grandly held from October 3 to 11 at Zhongxing New Village. On the afternoon of the 24th, the county government hosted a press conference in the first-floor courtyard of the county hall, featuring a vibrant opening performance, launch ceremony, and tea tasting session to build excitement for the upcoming nine-day event. Deputy County Magistrate Wang Ruidé, along with distinguished guests, promoted the event and warmly invited citizens across Taiwan and international tourists to visit Nantou during the holiday period to enjoy premium tea, appreciate tea artistry, explore unique exhibition halls, and embark on tea-themed mini-trips, immersing themselves in this year’s theme of 'Ma Shang Hao Yun' (Immediate Goodness).

Attendees included county councilors Chen Yijun, Zhang Xiuzhi, Lin Ruyang, Jian Qianxiang, Zhang Wanci; Director Zhuang Yuefeng from the Agricultural and Food Agency; Huang Zhengzong, Director of the Central Branch of the Tea Research and Extension Station, Council of Agriculture; Zeng Mingrui, Secretary-General of the County Farmers’ Association; leaders from township-level farmers’ associations; and numerous civic representatives.

Deputy Magistrate Wang stated that this marks the 16th edition of the Nantou World Tea Expo. The county government continues to elevate the value of Nantou’s tea industry and tourism sector through the expo, aiming to share Nantou’s exceptional tea with the world. This year’s event retains classic elements while introducing new features, including 35 themed pavilions, over 200 sales booths, and dedicated zones for tea ware and gourmet food. Major activities include the Thousand-Person Tea Ceremony, Thousand-Person Hand-Shaken Drink Experience, Malasang Picnic, and the popular 'Yi Xin Er Ye' concerts. Internationally, diverse tea cultures from Persia, Japan, India, Tibet, and Taiwan will be showcased.

The 'Tea Village Mini-Trip' program has expanded to five routes—Zhushan, Lugu, Mingjian, Nantou City, and Yuchi Township. A National Day flag-raising ceremony will also be held on October 10. Deputy Magistrate Wang hopes the expo will help tea transcend its role as merely an industry, integrating it into daily life, culture, tourism, and education, while advancing toward technology, intelligence, low-carbon practices, and sustainability. He invites everyone to visit Zhongxing New Village from October 3 to 11 to savor fine tea and enjoy the leisurely essence of tea culture.

According to the Agriculture Department, this year’s expo includes 35 themed pavilions covering traditional tea production, specialty agricultural products, smart agriculture, local revitalization, and sustainable development. Highlights include the Golden Tea Tasting Pavilion, Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Pavilion, Dongding Tea Fragrance Pavilion, Shanlinxi Oolong Tea Pavilion, Nantou Young Farmers Pavilion, Smart Agriculture Pavilion, Agrifood Education Pavilion, Tea Cultural Exchange Pavilion, and Taste Nantou Sustainably Pavilion—offering a comprehensive view of Nantou’s tea industry from cultivation and processing to cultural heritage and technological innovation.

Venue planning has also been continuously improved. The premium Taiwanese tea sales area is centralized beneath the main parade ground and equipped with air conditioning. The tea utensils zone likewise offers a comfortable, climate-controlled environment, while the agricultural specialty products section features high-ceilinged, well-ventilated design for enhanced visitor comfort during tea appreciation, tasting, and shopping.

Beyond ongoing tea quality management, the county government has incorporated low-carbon practices, smart technologies, and youth engagement into this year’s expo content. Visitors can learn about sustainable concepts such as low-carbon cultivation, energy-efficient tea processing, and resource recycling, while witnessing the achievements of a new generation of farmers in brand building and agricultural innovation.

To ensure consumer confidence, all participating tea farmers must possess certifications such as agricultural product traceability, organic verification, or production and marketing records. In addition to premium teas, the venue will gather coffee, cocoa, specialty agricultural products, tea utensils, and local delicacies, showcasing Nantou’s rich and diverse agricultural character.

This year’s event lineup is exceptionally rich. Alongside beloved attractions like the Thousand-Person Tea Ceremony, Tea and Music Feast, and Qu Shui Liu Shang (floating cup ritual), new large-scale events include the Malasang Picnic, Yi Xin Er Ye Concerts, and Thousand-Person Hand-Shaken Drink Experience. A flag-raising ceremony will also be held on National Day. Families and children can participate in activities such as 'Tea Aroma Six Senses,' traditional pan-fried tea making, and manual tea weighing, gaining hands-on understanding of tea and tea culture.

International exchange remains a major highlight. Under lush camphor trees, the International Tea Pavilion will present tea cultures from Persia, India, Japan, Tibetan butter tea, and Taiwan. A newly added Tea Cultural Exchange Pavilion brings together Assam and Darjeeling teas from India and specialty teas from various counties and cities across Taiwan. Through tea displays, sales, and exchanges, visitors can experience diverse regional tea cultures in one place, further enhancing the international outreach of the Nantou Tea Expo.

This year’s 'Tea Village Mini-Trip' expands again, adding Nantou City and Yuchi Township to the existing routes of Zhushan, Lugu, and Mingjian, offering five total routes. These guided tours lead visitors into tea plantations and production sites, allowing them to experience tea processing, tea tasting, and local cuisine—extending the journey from the expo grounds into the tea-growing regions and boosting local tourism and consumption.
