The sacred reading play 'Caligula' is scheduled to be performed at Tokyo Tatemono Pia Theater in Tokyo from Wednesday, August 12 to Sunday, August 16, 2026.

This performance depicts the Roman Emperor Caligula, who, upon the death of his sister and lover Drusilla, realizes that 'the world is absurd' and seeks absolute freedom. Kenta Fukasaku, who is active in theater, opera, and film, will direct Caligula's seemingly extreme journey. The cast includes a stellar lineup of talented voice actors and actors such as Ryota Murai, Mika Horii, Megumi Ogata, and Kento Ito. Through the tragedy of a man who sought absolutes in an absurd world, this work questions freedom, power, and the meaning of existence. Please come to the theater to experience what can be found in an absurd world.

<STORY>

Roman Emperor Caligula, upon the death of his sister and lover Drusilla, realizes the absurdity that 'people die' and 'happiness is impossible,' and becomes a tyrant in pursuit of absolute freedom and logic. He says, 'I want the moon,' and tries to expose the nothingness of the world by seeking the impossible.

Under this ideology, he uses his power to insult nobles, confiscate property, and execute people indiscriminately, ruling with unreasonable tyranny.

Even as Caligula awakens to absurdity and transforms into a cold-blooded tyrant, his lover Caesonia tries to understand and accept his madness. In a court filled with unreasonable orders and killings, she is one of the few who does not succumb to fear but instead empathizes with Caligula's loneliness and anguish.

His actions are not mere madness but an experiment to thoroughly expose human hypocrisy and the fragility of values. However, his confidant Cherea and others believe his tyranny will lead the state to ruin and gradually decide to assassinate him. Caligula, aware of his own loneliness and the logical conclusion of his path, accepts his downfall.

'There is one thing I have not yet obtained. — The moon.'

This is not a 'story of a mad tyrant,' but the absurd tragedy of a man who continues to seek meaning even after the world has lost it.
