Teikoku Databank, Ltd. analyzed the trends and outlook for food and beverage price hikes from June 2026 onwards. In June 2026, a total of 1,078 food and beverage items saw price increases. The total number of price hikes for the full year of 2026 reached 9,361 items based on data from January to October. It is expected that the annual total will exceed 10,000 items for the fifth consecutive year since the survey began in 2022. Against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the Middle East, a widespread rush of price hikes is expected to continue in the food and beverage sector from this summer onwards. Among 195 major food manufacturers, 1,078 household food and beverage items saw price hikes in June, with an average increase rate of 14% per hike. This is the first time in two months since April 2026 that the number of monthly price hikes has exceeded 1,000. For price hikes from June onwards, there is a trend of reflecting the increased cost of naphtha, a raw material for trays and films, due to the impact of the Middle East situation.
