Theatre Seminar Series "Theatre Architecture Seminar" ~Theatre Architects Talk About Their Own Works~ Vol.01
Theatre Workshop Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masashi Ito) will hold a new seminar series, "Theatre Architecture Seminar," which considers the future of theaters.
The first volume, Vol.01, will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at P.O. Minami Aoyama Hall (Minato-ku, Tokyo), featuring Mr. Hisao Kohyama, Chairman of Kohyama Atelier Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo), and Mr. Sachio Hasegawa, Representative Director and President, who will speak about their theater architecture works designed to date.
Each seminar in this series will invite architects with extensive experience in theater design as guests to talk about their thoughts and design points for theaters. By making it a series, we aim to understand the current state of theater architecture in modern Japan and, at the same time, consider with the participants what roles these facilities should play and what they should achieve.

Chairman, Kohyama Atelier
Hisao Kohyama
Architect, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects, Chairman of Kohyama Atelier. Born in Tokyo in 1937.
Graduated from the Department of Architecture, University of Tokyo, completed graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and served as Professor at the University of Tokyo, Meiji University, and the Open University of Japan.
His works include Seigakuin University Chapel (Japan Art Academy Award), Saitama Arts Theater (Architectural Institute of Japan Award, Murano Togo Award, American Theatre Technology Award), Sekikawa Village Museum, Yayoi Auditorium at the University of Tokyo, Kumano Hongu-kan (Architectural Institute of Japan Award), Ito Center at the University of Tokyo, ROHM Theatre Kyoto, and others.
His books include "Thirteen Chapters for Architecture Lovers" and "Lectures on Architectural Design."
Received the Architectural Institute of Japan Grand Prize in 2021.

Representative Director and President of Kohyama Atelier. Assumed current position in 2021.
Graduated from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo University of Science. Since Saitama Arts Theater, he has been responsible for all theater designs at Kohyama Atelier, including Kanagawa Arts Theatre, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (renovation), Honokuni Toyohashi Arts Theatre, Kani City Cultural Creation Center, Hita Citizen's Culture Hall, Taketa City General Culture Hall, Naha Cultural Arts Theater, Laporte Gosen, Kawaguchi General Culture Hall (renovation), and others. Currently, Theatre Mado (Marugame), Naruto City Culture Hall renovation, and National Theatre redevelopment are underway.
Member of the Architectural Institute of Japan Cultural Facilities Subcommittee, JATET Director, Advisor to the Japan Association of Theatre Engineers, ITEAC2023 Committee Member, recipient of numerous awards including the Wooden Architecture Award, BCS Award, and Good Design Award.
