TISI Supports Mitsui Chemical's IT and Data Infrastructure Built Around SAP S/4HANA

TISI Corporation (headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasufumi Okamoto; hereinafter "TISI"), a member of the TIS INTEC Group, announces its collaboration with Deloitte Tohmatsu LLC (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Managing Executive Officer: Shingo Kashiyama; hereinafter "Deloitte Tohmatsu") to support Mitsui Chemicals Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Satoshi Ichimura; hereinafter "Mitsui Chemicals") in establishing an IT and data infrastructure centered on SAP S/4HANA. This project, initiated in 2023, successfully commenced full operations in April 2026 as originally scheduled.

Background

The business environment surrounding the manufacturing industry demands rapid and sophisticated management decisions due to fluctuating raw material prices, increasingly complex supply chains, and advancing ESG initiatives. Mitsui Chemicals is advancing "Corporate Transformation through DX," one of the core strategies of its long-term business plan "VISION 2030," and has been developing a new IT and data infrastructure integrating SAP S/4HANA, Fujitsu Actual Costs Solutions, Anaplan, Tableau, and other systems.

TISI's Support in This Project

Leveraging its deep understanding of Mitsui Chemicals' business operations and legacy systems developed through years of collaboration, as well as extensive expertise in large-scale SAP implementation and system construction, TISI worked alongside Deloitte Tohmatsu to support the development of a standardized, future-proof system foundation. The project emphasized the "Clean Core" approach—minimizing custom add-ons by maximizing the use of SAP S/4HANA's standard functionalities. By adhering to an add-on assessment flow, traditional customizations were minimized, while extensibility and maintainability were balanced through the use of SAP's extension frameworks and peripheral solutions. Early benefits were confirmed through pilot operations, leading to successful full-scale deployment.

Implementation Benefits

This project has established a foundation for Mitsui Chemicals to integrate its core SAP S/4HANA system with peripheral systems, advancing business standardization and sophisticated data utilization. By adopting the "Clean Core" development approach, Mitsui Chemicals can rapidly incorporate the latest digital technologies in the future, while reducing costs associated with major updates and maintenance by more than 50%. Furthermore, leveraging the integrated data infrastructure—including peripheral systems—will accelerate data-driven corporate transformation by promoting various initiatives aimed at improving ROIC.

TISI will continue to support the expansion of this IT and data infrastructure across the Mitsui Chemicals Group and ongoing improvement initiatives. Additionally, TISI will contribute to the evolution of a sustainable system foundation that maintains Clean Core principles while flexibly adapting to regulatory changes, shifts in the business environment, and group-wide deployments.
