Two years have passed since the release of "Kamuy no Uta," a film planned and produced by Higashikawa Town, modeled on the life of Ainu culture inheritor Yukie Chiri. With the aim of encouraging Higashikawa Town residents and people in the Kamikawa region of Hokkaido to once again turn their attention to Ainu culture, a map detailing Ainu place names within Higashikawa Town and their origins will be published on the Kamuy no Uta no Gakko website from May 1st.
The map involved literary research with the cooperation of Visiting Researcher Yasui Takahashi (Linguistics) from the Center for Ainu and Indigenous Studies, Hokkaido University, and other experts, ultimately translating 34 terms noted at 32 locations.
