Live Performances Amidst Night Cherry Blossoms: A Special Spring Event

The spring tradition at Heian Jingu Shrine, which began in 1989, was rebranded as "Heian Jingu Sakura Otoyo" in 2023. This year, visitors can once again enjoy live performances by talented artists set against the backdrop of night cherry blossoms over five days.

This program introduces the charm of "Sakura Otoyo," a signature night cherry blossom event in spring Kyoto, and highlights the spectacular artists scheduled to perform.

Special Night Opening of Heian Jingu's Cherry Blossoms, Praised by Literary Masters

During the event, Heian Jingu Shrine will be open for special night viewing. The Otenmon Gate, Daigokuden Hall, and the South and East Gardens will be illuminated, with the magnificent shrine buildings and weeping cherry trees coloring the spring night in Kyoto.

The South Garden, where the weeping cherry trees bloom—described by novelist Junichiro Tanizaki in his work 'The Makioka Sisters' as a "crimson cloud"—and the East Garden, where visitors can enjoy the view of the Kihinkan Pavilion (relocated from the Kyoto Imperial Palace) and cherry blossoms reflected on the water, offer unique experiences available only at this time.

Star-Studded Lineup and Special Broadcast of Pianist Budo's Performance!

The illuminated space will host live performances by talented artists. A diverse range of performers will appear on different days, allowing guests to enjoy a unique musical experience each night.

Furthermore, we will broadcast special footage of last year's "Sakura Otoyo" performance by pianist Budo, who is also scheduled to perform again this year.
