UESHIMA MUSEUM to Open Tea Room 'Kankai-an' Combining Traditional Tea Ceremony with Contemporary Art

Starting May 19, 2026, UESHIMA MUSEUM in Shibuya, Tokyo, will open its tea room 'Kankai-an' to the public. This initiative blends the 500-year-old tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony with contemporary art pieces from the UESHIMA MUSEUM COLLECTION. Visitors can experience whisking their own matcha while viewing works by renowned artists such as Isamu Noguchi and Raku Kichizaemon XVI. The experience is designed to offer a fresh perspective on cultural inheritance and modern creativity through the concept of 'borrowed scenery' and artistic dialogue.
