Unicharm Corporation has announced that it will sequentially launch 'MamyPoko Pants RefF,' diapers recycled from used paper diapers, at 42 'AEON' and 'AEON STYLE' general merchandise stores operated by AEON Retail Co., Ltd., starting May 21, 2026. This initiative expands the product's sales area and aims to further promote resource circulation through consumer purchasing behavior.
Background of the Launch In Japan, the increasing use of paper diapers due to an aging population has become a social issue, leading to a greater burden on waste disposal and increased carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from incineration. To address these challenges, Unicharm began developing horizontal recycling technology for used paper diapers in 2010. The company established a system in Shibushi City and Osaki Town in Kagoshima Prefecture to recycle used diapers collected locally. Furthermore, amidst concerns about the impact of geopolitical risks and regulatory changes on raw material procurement and supply systems, building a structure to ensure a stable supply of high-quality products has become a key management priority. As part of this effort, Unicharm has been promoting a 'domestic resource circulation' system to regenerate diapers collected in Japan into new products. In 2024, a preliminary sales launch of products using the RefF technology was conducted with AEON Kyushu Co., Ltd.
Now, in collaboration with AEON Retail, which shares the goal of realizing a sustainable society, Unicharm will expand the sales area of 'MamyPoko Pants RefF' from Kyushu to the Chugoku, Kansai, Chubu, and Kanto regions. Through this effort, the companies will offer consumers an environmentally friendly choice in their daily shopping and aim to further expand resource circulation. Unicharm plans to continue strengthening partnerships to contribute to a sustainable society.
