Alsace wines, known for their versatility and wide range of styles from still (notably Pinot Noir) to sparkling, are enhancing their presence in the Japanese market. As of 2025, Japan ranks as the sixth-largest market for Alsace wines by export value and the largest in Asia. For still wines specifically, Japan is the fourth-largest export market.
In this context, the Alsace Wine Committee (CIVA - Comité Interprofessionnel des Vins d’Alsace) is launching a four-part masterclass series in partnership with Académie du Vin Tokyo to deepen understanding of the region's wines. Participants who complete all four sessions will be awarded an official certificate of completion from CIVA, recognizing their specialized knowledge.
Masterclass Schedule - Dates: June 7, 2026; September 13, 2026; October 11, 2026; November 8, 2026 - Time: 16:00–18:00 - Venue: Académie du Vin Tokyo (Aoyama)
Instructors The series will be taught by Mr. Yasuki Gokijo, the official lecturer for the Alsace Wine Committee in Japan. The inaugural session on June 7 will feature a special session with Mr. Thierry Fritsch, an oenologist and the Head of Training and Competitions at CIVA.
Link with "Alsace Rocks!" Campaign This masterclass series is linked to the nationwide "Alsace Rocks!" spring and autumn campaigns. During the campaign period, consumers can experience Alsace wines at participating wine shops, restaurants, and wine bars across Japan. The campaign also aims to strengthen consumer engagement through a lucky draw, accessible via QR codes on in-store posters.
