West Nippon Expressway Company Limited (NEXCO West) has launched an industry-academia collaboration project with Yamaguchi Prefectural Tokuyama Commerce and Technology High School and Eagle Kogyo Co., Ltd., the operator of Kudamatsu Service Area (SA) on the downbound E2 Sanyo Expressway. High school students will design original bread and sweets using local ingredients from Yamaguchi Prefecture, which will be sold at the KEY'S CAFE bakery corner in Kudamatsu SA (downbound) from early October 2026 to late March 2027. Under the theme 'Let's make the best-selling bread and sweets at Kudamatsu SA!', students will handle recipe creation, naming, pricing, and promotion. The recipe must feature at least one ingredient produced or processed in Yamaguchi Prefecture that can be stably supplied. A recipe selection presentation will take place on June 22, 2026, at the high school, followed by a product reveal in early September 2026. This initiative aims to promote local consumption and revitalize the regional economy through food education.
