Wani Books has announced the live-action film adaptation of the semi-autobiographical novel "The Skit that Changed My Life" (Jinsei wo Kaeta Konto), authored by Seiya of the comedy duo Shimofuri Myojo. The film will star Kazuya Ohashi, a member of the popular idol group Naniwa Danshi, in the lead role of Ishikawa. Hayato Kawai will direct the project, with a screenplay by Tamio Hayashi. Distribution will be handled by GAGA and Asmik Ace.
The original novel, released on November 25, 2024, is based on Seiya's personal experiences. It became an immediate commercial success, surpassing 120,000 copies in its first ten days and reaching a cumulative circulation of over 150,000. The story explores themes of resilience and redemption through comedy, chronicling a protagonist's journey from being a victim of high school bullying to regaining his identity through a performance at a school festival.
Author Seiya remarked that the project fulfills a 17-year dream, as he had envisioned a visual adaptation since his youth. He expressed confidence in Ohashi’s ability to portray the emotional depth of the character. Lead actor Kazuya Ohashi noted that he felt a strong personal connection to the script’s message of transforming pain into positivity. Producer Tsuyoshi Matsushita highlighted the casting choice, aiming to showcase the duality of Ohashi’s performance—balancing his public cheerful persona with the character's internal struggles.
