International NGO World Vision Japan (WVJ), which supports children around the world, will hold the charity run & walk event 'GLOBAL 6K FOR WATER 2026' on October 18 (Sun) at Toyosu Park, Hana-ki and Monument Plaza in Tokyo.
Last year, 287 people participated in this event, where a portion of the entry fees contributes to water support projects in developing countries. Amidst the worsening global water crisis, this year they have introduced a team participation category and aim to have 1,000 participants experience the weight of 'water of life.' Through the actions of running and walking, participants connect their individual efforts, create greater social impact, and expand the circle of support.
● 'GLOBAL 6K FOR WATER' – Changing the 6km that Children Walk Children in developing countries walk an average of 6km every day to obtain water. The water they carry weighs approximately 20kg. They often walk for over two hours on unpaved roads, which prevents some from attending school. Even the water they finally obtain may not be safe. Contaminated water causes various diseases, and globally, 700 children under the age of five lose their lives every day due to diseases caused by a lack of safe water and sanitation facilities.
'GLOBAL 6K FOR WATER' is an experiential charity event where participants walk or run the '6km' that these children walk. Participants can also experience walking with jerry cans (tanks) filled with water. 30% of the participation fee will be utilized for water and sanitation projects in Isiolo, Kenya.
