Seminar Content

Biodiversity and ecosystem services, which support our social and economic activities, are deteriorating globally due to rapid population growth and unsustainable production and consumption activities.

Against this backdrop, 'nature-related risks' are becoming critical management issues that can affect business continuity. To address this, the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) released ISO 17298 in October 2025, an international guidance standard that provides the concepts and processes for organizations to plan and implement biodiversity initiatives.

ISO 17298 outlines practical processes, such as clarifying the organizational scope and stakeholders regarding biodiversity, identifying and prioritizing dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities, and formulating action plans based on regional characteristics and goal setting.

Furthermore, ISO 17298 is designed with consideration for consistency with existing frameworks such as ISO 14001, ISO 26000, TNFD, and SDGs, making it easy for organizations to integrate biodiversity initiatives into their existing management systems.

In this seminar, we have invited BSI Group Japan, a third-party organization widely involved in international standards and conformity assessment, to explain the key points of ISO 17298. We will also provide concrete steps for implementing biodiversity initiatives based on international standards. A Q&A session will be held, so we encourage your participation.

Recommended for corporate managers who:

- Feel challenged in identifying and prioritizing the relationship between biodiversity and their business. - Want to standardize biodiversity management as an internal process, beyond just information disclosure like TNFD. - Want to correctly understand the requirements of ISO 17298 and grasp the workflow and value of certification.
