'The House of Marisa: A Touch of Sparkle and a Drop of Glamour' By Hamish Bowles
"The House of Marisa is a world wrapped in a bit of shimmer and a bit of elegance," says Marisa Berenson with characteristic grace. For a woman who has worn legendary outfits and lived unforgettable roles on screen, this capsule collection marks her first major endeavor to give form to her own aesthetic and memories. With a timeless beauty and an aura of mystery, Marisa continues to captivate audiences like a modern-day Sphinx.
"I created a small capsule collection that packs my life and my films into it," she explains.
And what a filmography it is! Marisa has graced the screen in works by unparalleled talents such as Luchino Visconti, Stanley Kubrick, Andy Warhol, Bob Fosse, Clint Eastwood, and Luca Guadagnino.
Inspired by the theme of 'Endless Summer,' this 45-piece collection includes beachwear, dresses, jackets, and slacks, alongside home items such as rugs and tableware. The cutlery is described as 'formal yet beautiful and somewhat whimsical.'
Marisa reflects on the project as 'a thrilling adventure of layering the sensibilities of multiple generations.'
She recalls her younger self as a shy and somewhat intimidated girl, especially in the presence of her grandmother, Elsa Schiaparelli. Before World War II, Schiaparelli was a towering figure who controlled the fashion world from her salon at Place Vendôme with eccentric, surrealist-inspired designs.
Marisa remembers her grandmother's residence on Rue de Berri in Paris as an 'exceptionally eclectic space, furnished as if by improvisation.' The grand salon featured 18th-century Chinoiserie Aubusson tapestries, leopard rugs on crimson velvet sofas, and Empire-style chandeliers. This eclectic sensibility—epitomized by Schiaparelli's signature 'Shocking Pink'—is deeply reflected in the new home collection designed for ZARA.
