The Nagaoka Nou-challe Project Executive Committee (chaired by Ken Oshima) announced that the Tokyo Qualifiers for the World Edamame Speed Eating Championship 2026 (held July 11 at Aore Nagaoka) will take place at Tokyo Culture Culture in Shibuya across three sessions on July 3-4, 2026.\n\nAlthough Niigata Prefecture ranks first in edamame cultivation area nationwide, its shipment volume is seventh as residents consume most of it locally. The Tokyo Qualifiers, now in their fourth year, offer a competitive food battle to win a ticket to the main championship. This year's event features expanded slots on Saturday.\n\nTickets are priced at 3,500 yen (including edamame and local food/drinks) and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis via Peatix starting June 5 at noon, with a capacity of 80 participants per session. The event has been renewed to focus more on competition than previous buffet-style formats, while still offering local Niigata sake and dishes. Radio personality Minoru Chris Takizawa will host the Saturday sessions. Media and influencers are welcome to cover or join the event.
