Calligrapher Mukyo (born 2002 in Oita Prefecture) will hold her first solo exhibition, "Zen Exhibition," for six days from August 5 (Wed) to August 10 (Mon), 2026, at Palette Gallery in Azabu-Juban, Tokyo. The exhibition will feature 13 new works based on Zen sayings and calligraphy capturing scenes seen during meditation. The venue is composed of three elements: calligraphy, incense, and sound, creating a space where viewing itself is an experience of calming the mind. Admission is free.
[Exhibition Overview]
This exhibition will present 13 new works, including calligraphy capturing scenes seen during meditation and works created based on Zen sayings. The centerpiece is a large-scale work on full-size paper (approx. 84x160cm after framing) and a series of works on half-size paper (approx. 45x90cm after framing). Using only ink, Japanese paper, and brushes as materials, the collection pursues the power of a single line.
The venue will be filled with the scent of "ZEN" by at-home company and the quiet sounds of Zen. The spatial composition, where calligraphy, incense, and sound overlap, offers an experience of calming the mind through viewing.
[Background of the Exhibition]
Mukyo has shared her calligraphy creation process through TikTok LIVE and Instagram, accumulating over 50 million total views. Her activities have expanded to include providing works for the Michelin-starred restaurant "AKI NAGAO" and performing calligraphy at fiscal year-end parties and corporate events.
This exhibition marks the first opportunity for visitors to experience Mukyo's world of calligraphy, which has spread through social media, within a single exhibition space. Centered on Zen philosophy, the exhibition will convey Japanese aesthetics, where calligraphy brings tranquility and space, from Azabu-Juban to both domestic and international audiences.
