i-pairs Upgrades Inertial Motion Capture Services with New Xsens Flagship Models, Starting June 10, 2026

i-pairs Inc. has upgraded the equipment for its 'Inertial Motion Capture Recording Service,' which has a track record in special effects TV show production and 3D character live performances, to the latest flagship models from Xsens. The motion capture suit now utilizes the 'Next-Generation Xsens Link,' the highest-performance inertial system available, and the hand capture gloves feature the 'METAGLOVES PRO,' which employs a new EMF tracking system. This upgrade enhances tracking accuracy and enables the acquisition of top-precision data without drift.

Starting Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the service has been rebranded as the 'Xsens Motion Capture Recording Service,' and services using this latest equipment will commence.

Additionally, the real-time preview feature, which was previously a paid service, is now available for free (Note 1) under the Affiliated Studio Plan using our proprietary retargeting software, 'n-Links Retarget.'

This allows clients to check movements in real-time on the 3D models actually used for recording, ensuring a smooth process.

Service Overview: i-pairs 'Xsens Motion Capture Recording Service'

This is a high-quality motion capture service using Movella's top-tier inertial sensor system, 'Next-Generation Xsens Link,' with rates starting from the 130,000 yen range.

Unlike optical motion capture that requires filming with cameras, the Xsens system calculates actor movement using 17 sensors attached to the suit, measuring angular velocity, acceleration, geomagnetism, and atmospheric pressure on up to 10 axes.

It does not require large-scale preparations or a dedicated studio, and can record even if there are obstacles or blind spots that would render optical systems unusable. Furthermore, since the software removes the effects of magnetic fields in real-time, the impact of body-local coordinate drift (the accumulation of error over time)—a common disadvantage of inertial systems—is minimized (Note 2).

Therefore, recording is possible in offices, outdoors, or anywhere with space for an actor to move. The service has even been used successfully in locations with significant magnetic interference, such as crowded trade show floors.

(Note 1) A separate setup fee (22,000 yen/tax included) may be required depending on the 3D model provided. (Note 2) This does not completely eliminate the effects of magnetic fields.

Cleaning and editing of captured motion data are completed quickly (as fast as same-day service), significantly reducing production turnaround time and costs. Major data formats are supported (conversion fees apply for formats other than bvh/fbx).

This service can be used for a wide range of purposes, including VR/AR 3DCG content, game motion, virtual live events, virtual YouTubers, and various types of motion analysis. It can also be integrated with hand-animated motion or used for real-time motion capture, where captured data is directly mapped to characters.
