Public institutions, including local governments, are increasingly upgrading their free Wi-Fi infrastructure for tourism, disaster prevention, and regional service improvements. Given these needs, the adoption of OpenRoaming is expanding due to its security and convenience. Implementing OpenRoaming requires not only wireless encryption but also protection of the wired (LAN) segment. Expertise in LAN protection design and continuous monitoring are significant challenges for public sector departments. To address these, NTT Broadband Platform, Inc. (NTTBP) will launch 'Kantan Wi-Fi for OpenRoaming' on October 1, 2026, with applications opening on June 1. This service provides a one-stop solution for security enhancements based on Cityroam Association technical standards. NTTBP manages the design and construction of LAN protection, provides the 'Japan Wi-Fi Authentication Service,' and handles equipment operation and monitoring. For access points, NTTBP utilizes the DBA-X1230P from Taiwan-based D-Link Japan, equipped with custom firmware to reduce costs. Other manufacturers' access points can also be supported upon request. Regarding LAN protection, OpenRoaming standards by the Cityroam Association and the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) require protection of the wired segment to prevent eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle attacks, necessitating VPNs or physical wiring protection. NTTBP also collaborates with regional partners to provide comprehensive support for installation and maintenance, ensuring high-quality, localized deployment. The D-Link DBA-X1230P is a Wi-Fi 6 access point compatible with the 'Nuclias Cloud' platform, supporting IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and PoE, allowing for flexible installation and efficient cloud-based management.
