Ryu Jeyoon Solo Exhibition: 'Non-Rite of Passage'
Ginza Tsutaya Books (GINZA SIX 6F, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will host 'Non-Rite of Passage,' a solo exhibition by artist Ryu Jeyoon, currently based in Kyoto, from June 27 (Sat) to July 24 (Fri), 2026, at the store's Art Wall.
### About the Artist Originally from South Korea and now based in Kyoto, Ryu Jeyoon is an artist who uses ceramics as a base, combined with materials such as oil paint and gold, to express identity and narrative. His work explores themes like home, displacement, and memories, creating spatial expressions that traverse between reality and the past.
### Exhibition Theme: 'Non-Rite of Passage' The title 'Non-Rite of Passage' refers to a state where the process of transitioning from one status to another (a rite of passage) remains incomplete, keeping one in an 'in-between' space (a boundary). It is an attempt to translate the sense of endless 'movement' experienced by the artist into ceramics.
The exhibition integrates diverse cultural elements, including clay and glazes used in Japan, the ancient 'amphora' forms encountered in Italy, and traditional techniques such as Hakuji and openwork learned in South Korea.
The exhibition space is configured with colorful 2D works facing monochrome 3D vase-like sculptures. Through an installation featuring motifs like birds, eggs, and lighthouses, it creates a sense where meanings intersect multi-layeredly between the 2D and 3D.
### Sales Information Exhibited works will be available for purchase starting from 10:30 on June 27 (Sat). Sales may end before the exhibition period begins depending on pre-sales status.
