Quantinuum, a leading company in the quantum computing industry, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation to pursue a strategic collaboration aimed at the industrial application of quantum computing technology. This MOU establishes a framework for both companies to jointly explore new application possibilities for quantum computing in broad simulation and design fields, including Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In recent years, quantum computing has entered a transition period from research to practical application. Efforts in use-case development and standardization by companies are accelerating, raising expectations for practical use in fields beyond engineering, such as healthcare, drug discovery, finance, logistics, and energy. In this collaboration, Quantinuum will provide access to its high-precision ion-trap quantum computing platform and support the development of quantum algorithms. Mitsubishi Electric will provide use cases, technical requirements, and simulation expertise in industrial fields such as factory automation, power and social infrastructure, and air conditioning and building systems. By combining their strengths, the companies plan to identify relevant industrial use cases, evaluate technical feasibility, and verify the effectiveness of quantum and hybrid quantum-classical approaches. Through this partnership, Quantinuum and Mitsubishi Electric aim not only to solve scientific challenges but also to create new market opportunities and contribute to technological innovation and value creation for society.
