COFFEE STYLE UCC Corporation (Headquarters: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, President: Keigo Nishimoto) will launch the "Hydrogen Roasted Coffee 3P Set" on June 30, 2026 (Tue). This product features "Fresh Cube," a single-serving vacuum-packed coffee utilizing "Hydrogen Roasting," a decarbonization technology that does not emit CO2 during roasting, while bringing out new levels of deliciousness.

This product is a gift set of three servings of our popular hydrogen-roasted coffee, previously available as a single product.

Roasting, which develops the unique flavors of coffee such as acidity and bitterness by roasting green beans, is a crucial process that determines the taste. UCC has developed "Hydrogen Roasting," a new decarbonization technology that uses hydrogen as a heat source for this roasting process.

Hydorgen Roasting is characterized by a wider range of temperature control compared to conventional heat sources, allowing for stable flame control even at low temperatures (see diagram below). This product brings out a balance of subtle acidity and mild bitterness, along with sweetness and a clear aftertaste. A set of three 9g servings of hydrogen-roasted coffee, vacuum-packed individually. Each serving includes a paper filter, making it easy to brew even for those without brewing equipment.

About Hydrogen Roasted Coffee

The UCC Group's purpose is to "Unlock the power of coffee for a better world," and we are challenging ourselves to create unprecedented coffee value by pursuing new possibilities in coffee. Furthermore, as part of our efforts to "achieve carbon neutrality by 2040*1" based on the UCC Sustainability Guidelines, we are working to realize coffee roasting using hydrogen as a heat source.

While natural gas is typically used as the heat source for coffee bean roasting, CO2 emissions are a major challenge for carbon neutrality. UCC began research and development in 2022, focusing on hydrogen roasting, which uses a hydrogen flame as a heat source that emits no CO2 during combustion, and has conducted demonstration research with a small test roaster.

Initially, the goal was to replicate the taste of conventional heat sources, but as development progressed, we were able to confirm the unique advantages of hydrogen roasting, such as a wider temperature control range during roasting than conventional heat sources. In April 2025, we began mass production*2 of hydrogen-roasted coffee using the world's first large-scale hydrogen roaster at our main coffee production facility, "UCC Fuji Factory," and started full-scale sales, releasing a total of seven products for both commercial and household use. The hydrogen used is procured as green hydrogen from Yamanashi Prefecture.

Hydorgen roasting has zero CO2 emissions. Switching to hydrogen-roasted coffee for your usual coffee, with two cups a day (e.g., one in the morning, one in the afternoon), can reduce CO2 emissions equivalent to planting one tree per year.

What is "Fresh Cube"?

UCC's proprietary "Fresh Cube" technology vacuum-packs coffee in single servings to prevent oxidation and maximize freshness. This allows you to enjoy the aroma and taste of freshly ground coffee at home anytime. The coffee grounds are individually packaged for each serving, and a drip filter is included, so you can easily brew delicious coffee just by preparing hot water.
