Sunrose Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, President: Koji Sakakibara), a company that plans, manufactures, and sells interior fabrics, primarily curtains, has collaborated with Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd., a global manufacturer of automotive parts, to develop a high-performance sunshade by upcycling scraps of "airbag fabric" used in automotive safety devices.
This product will be available for advance reservation sales on "Makuake," a crowdfunding service for new products and experiences.

Background of Development: A cross-industry sustainable collaboration realized by the alignment of both companies' aspirations
Automotive airbags use ultra-high-quality fabric that clears extremely high safety standards to protect occupants in the event of a collision. Toyoda Gosei has been promoting environmental initiatives (such as the ethical brand "Re-S") to reduce waste by effectively utilizing discarded fabric that does not meet safety standards, which is inevitably generated during the manufacturing process.
Meanwhile, Sunrose, an interior manufacturer that has pursued the possibilities of textiles for many years and worked on the recycling of fabric scraps generated during curtain production, focused on this "mottainai" (wasteful) top-tier toughness material. They were convinced that a "sunshade," which is exposed to harsh environments such as intense summer sunlight, UV rays, and repeated attachment and detachment, was the perfect product to fully leverage the strengths of airbag fabric.
This joint project was realized through the shared vision of both companies aiming for sustainable manufacturing that reduces environmental impact and possesses definite value. Leveraging the sewing and tailoring techniques of a long-established curtain manufacturer, the "Airbag Fabric Upcycled Sunshade" optimized for Japanese living environments was born.
Overwhelming Features of the Collaborative Product "Airbag Fabric Sunshade"
1. Amazing "Airbag Standard"! Airbag fabric with outstanding durability
Conventional sunshades can deteriorate due to UV rays and heat over years of use, or tear when pulled. However, this product uses Toyoda Gosei's airbag fabric, which is made to withstand strong impacts, resulting in exceptionally high tensile strength that makes it difficult to tear. It achieves durability that resists deterioration even after many seasons of use.
2. Blocks intense heat and light! Excellent heat shielding, light blocking, and UV cut performance
The high-density fabric, originally designed to protect lives and coated with silicone, also possesses excellent properties that block light and heat. It protects spaces from the intense heat of midsummer and strongly cuts temperature rise. It prevents aging and sunburn of furniture and other interiors caused by UV rays, and also contributes to energy savings by improving air conditioner efficiency and reducing electricity costs (fuel efficiency).
3. Sustainable design highlighting the technology of "Sunrose x Toyoda Gosei"
This is not just an environmentally friendly product, but a "storytelling product" with a backstory born from the forefront of Japanese manufacturing. By giving new value (upcycling) to high-quality materials that were destined for disposal through design and sewing technology, purchasing it itself contributes to a sustainable future.
