Silicon Studio Supports 3D Content Development for Dentsu Soken's Driving Simulator
Silicon Studio Corporation, a company providing digital content services across various industries including automotive, video, and architecture, as well as the entertainment industry, announced that it has comprehensively supported the creation of 3D content for 'VDX Studio,' a driving simulator facility planned and developed by Dentsu Soken Inc., utilizing Unreal Engine.
### Recreating the C1 Route for VDX Studio
In recent years, the use of game engines like Unreal Engine has been expanding in the automotive and mobility sectors. Due to the capability for high-quality real-time rendering, there is a growing demand for digital twins in driving simulation and HMI evaluation.
However, since such advanced development requires specialized engineering and design expertise, Dentsu Soken considered collaboration with an external partner.
### Key Areas of Support
- Support for creating high-precision automotive driving environment data, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway Inner Circular Route (C1) - Realistic 3D reproduction of cityscapes, including signs, road surfaces, and buildings - Development support for urban data integration technology utilizing PLATEAU - Construction of a scheme between the two companies to generate 3D roads from road surface profiles - Rendering load analysis, performance optimization, and continuous tuning support in Unreal Engine - Verification and consulting for video synchronization technology in large multi-screen display environments
Silicon Studio supported the 3D content development for the driving simulator using its real-time 3DCG technology and know-how in game engine application. The company aims to further strengthen its collaboration in the automotive and manufacturing sectors and expand the industrial application of real-time 3D technology.
### Comment from Dentsu Soken
'Dentsu Soken has provided "Virtual Test Drive (VTD)," a solution that allows for the intuitive evaluation of vehicle dynamic performance before the vehicle is completed. Aiming for more advanced kansei (perceptual) evaluation, we opened "VDX Studio" in 2022, an evaluation facility integrating video, sound, and vibration, together with our group company, Estech Co., Ltd.
To achieve high-quality video expression in this facility, we received consistent technical support from Silicon Studio, ranging from 3D content production to performance optimization and operations, leveraging their rich knowledge of Unreal Engine. As a result, we achieved a high level of both image quality and processing performance, leading to the construction of a highly immersive evaluation environment and improved proposal capabilities. Moving forward, we intend to promote further collaboration with an eye toward applications beyond the automotive field, such as construction and agricultural machinery.'
