Ohacorte (operated by Chuichoke Co., Ltd.), a fruit tart specialty shop based in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, is pleased to announce that its signature baked good, the "Hirami Lemon Cake," has been added to the return gifts available through Naha City's furusato tax donation program.
Previously delivered to customers through physical stores and online shopping, the Hirami Lemon Cake will now also be available via this new channel—furusato tax donations.
A baked treat starring Okinawa's citrus
The star ingredient of the Hirami Lemon Cake is Okinawa's beloved citrus, "shiikwasa."
The Japanese botanical name for shiikwasa is "Hirami Lemon" (平実檸檬, meaning "flat-fruited lemon"). Wanting people to feel a deeper, more familiar connection to this distinctly Okinawan fruit, we chose to name our confection after it.
Both the cake batter and the icing incorporate fresh Hirami lemon juice, resulting in a light, moist texture. The rich aroma of butter and gentle sweetness are elevated by the bright citrus notes. A crisp, tangy icing finishes each cake, balancing the flavors and leaving a refreshingly light aftertaste.
This treat captures the essence of Okinawa's sunshine—bright, uplifting, and refreshingly delicious.
Creating a confection that carries Okinawa home
Since its founding in 2009, Ohacorte has specialized in crafting fruit tarts and other confections.
Throughout this journey, one idea has remained central: we wanted to create sweets that allow people to "take Okinawa home" with them.
Imagine a confection that evokes the scenery you've seen while traveling, the time spent with loved ones, or even the air and light unique to a place.
The Hirami Lemon Cake was born from this very vision.
For those who have visited Okinawa, we hope this cake rekindles cherished memories of their trip.
For those who haven't yet visited, we hope it inspires them to see Okinawa as a place they'd love to explore one day.
We aspire for this cake to become such a meaningful presence.
Between "everyday snack" and "gift"
At Ohacorte, we believe sweets shouldn't be reserved only for special occasions.
We envision our treats being enjoyed during a work break.
Shared in a quiet afternoon moment with family.
Or gifted spontaneously when someone comes to mind.
Our goal is to create confections that naturally become part of daily life and inspire the desire to share.
Okinawa has long cherished a warm culture of sharing food and gifts.
The Hirami Lemon Cake is an extension of that very tradition.
Many customers choose it not only as a treat for themselves at home but also as a thoughtful gift for loved ones.
Transition to a no-additives formulation
In June 2026, the Hirami Lemon Cake was reformulated to eliminate all food additives previously used for shelf stability.
While the original launch version contained no additives, we had introduced certain food additives over time to maintain quality during nationwide shipping.
Thanks to improvements in manufacturing equipment and processes, we have now successfully returned to a formulation free of artificial additives.
Our goal wasn't simply to be "additive-free," but to create a better-tasting confection.
We're now delivering what we believe is the most delicious version of the Hirami Lemon Cake yet—one that lets the natural flavors of the ingredients shine through more honestly than ever.
Reaching the whole country through furusato tax
Thanks to this inclusion in the furusato tax program, we'll be able to share the Hirami Lemon Cake with even more people across Japan.
While we can't fully capture Okinawa's landscapes, culture, and human connections within a single confection, we hope that with just one bite, people might catch a subtle hint of Okinawa's atmosphere.
Moving forward, Ohacorte will continue to deliver "daily moments of deliciousness and joy" through our sweets.
