Overview Hachidori Solar Inc., missioned to create a future powered by natural energy, and West Japan Railway Company (JR West) have commenced the full-scale launch of their residential solar power initiative on May 25, 2026, following a successful proof-of-concept (PoC). This marks Japan's first full-scale residential solar business led by a railway operator.

Service Details The service provides zero-down-payment residential solar power and battery storage systems in Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, and Okayama prefectures. By transforming individual houses along the railway lines into "small power plants," the project aims to foster local power self-sufficiency and build communities that consume locally-produced energy.

Background and Objectives With rising electricity costs and increasingly severe natural disasters characterizing the current energy environment, the transition toward decentralized energy is urgent. JR West, which sustains regional sustainability through its rail infrastructure, has joined this initiative to contribute to decarbonization and enhance regional resilience. Through their collaborative PoC, both companies confirmed significant demand for such services even in areas with limited government subsidies.

Future Strategy The companies plan to scale beyond individual household installations, eyeing expansion into areas such as Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture—a city designated by the Ministry of the Environment as a "Decarbonization Leading Area." Additionally, Hachidori Solar is developing a Home Energy Management System (HEMS) to optimize power generation, storage, and consumption, aiming to create a next-generation energy infrastructure connecting houses to the broader city.
