"Immediate Family," a documentary film depicting the musicians who have secretly supported the West Coast sound, is now playing. The film is a music documentary that three-dimensionally portrays four session musicians—Danny Kortchmar (guitar), Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Leland Sklar (bass), and Russ Kunkel (drums)—who supported the recordings and tours of artists like James Taylor, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, and Jackson Browne, often referred to as the West Coast sound, through the testimonies of various musicians and related individuals.
Although the film does not touch upon Japan, Kaz Sakamoto of VIVID SOUND, their Japanese contact, states: "July 2nd can be called the birthday of 'The Immediate Family' project. On that day in 2017, at the lobby bar of the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, we finalized the master recording contract for Kootch's (Danny Kortchmar's nickname) solo album 'Honey Don't Leave LA,' to be released the following year. While toasting with vodka, I asked him who his manager was, and he replied, 'Nobody!' So I said, 'Then leave it to me!' After he returned to the US, during the process of selecting recording members, the band name Danny Kortchmar & Immediate Family was born. Then, after the 2018 tour, through the production of the album 'Live in Japan' from the end of that year, came the 2019 tour, and at the request of the band members other than Danny, the name was changed to The Immediate Family. July 2nd is such a memorable day."
(The movie title is "Immediate Family," and the band name is written as "The Immediate Family.")
