[Summer Event] STEAM Summer School 2026 for Elementary Students Announced!

Laurus International School of Science (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Mami Hioki) is pleased to announce the "STEAM Summer School 2026," a 7-week program for elementary school students (ages 6-11) running from Monday, July 6, to Friday, August 21, 2026. As each week features a self-contained theme, students can flexibly participate for anywhere from one to seven weeks.

[About STEAM Education] STEAM is a globally recognized educational approach encompassing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Beyond mere knowledge acquisition, Laurus emphasizes "thinking, creating, and presenting" as a way to foster the skills needed to shape the future. STEAM Summer School 2026 showcases how this learning is embodied over the seven-week period.

STEAM Summer School 2026 Program Overview This program provides "inquiry-based learning" combining lectures, activities, and field trips under the STEAM framework. All classes are conducted by native English-speaking teachers in a full English immersion environment.

This summer, we have prepared experiential programs where classrooms transform into laboratories or escape rooms, allowing children to immerse themselves in the theme's world. The themes for the seven weeks are as follows:

Week 1 (July 6-10): The Taste Atelier What science is hidden in food? Step into the kitchen to explore the science behind what we eat, including the history of tea, the evolution of chocolate, herbal tea blending, and ramen-making experiences.

Week 2 (July 13-17): The Brain and Big Questions How do we "see," "think," and "decide"? Through visits to trick art museums and lectures by neurobiologists, students will experience how the brain sometimes deceives itself, fostering scientific thinking at the forefront of neuroscience.

Week 3 (July 20-24): Explorer's Voyage Using Darwin's logs as a guide, students explore the unique ecosystem of "islands." By reading maps and focusing on natural environments and biological adaptation, they will contemplate why islands produce unique species, followed by creating real terrariums.

Week 4 (July 27-31): Dream City Builders Guided by the UN's SDGs, students design an ideal city from scratch. They will create city models, including flags, landmarks, music, and dance, culminating in a "Dream City Expo."

Week 5 (August 3-7): Imagination Island Students become explorers and designers, building a vibrant 3D island from the ground up, including topography and buildings, ending with an exhibition of their model islands.

Week 6 (August 10-14): Communication Lab How is information shared? Students investigate animal signaling and human communication (Braille, British Sign Language, spoken language) to practice encoding and decoding messages.

Week 7 (August 17-21): Escape Room Lab A week of intellectual challenges including spatial puzzles, ciphers, disappearing ink, and Morse code. Students will design their own classroom escape game.
